1. Architectural & Historical Significance
Constructed in 1953 under the German Democratic Republic (GDR) as part of the Stalinist neo-classical infrastructure surrounding Ostbahnhof, the heating plant was decommissioned following the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 2004, nightlife pioneers Michael Teufele and Norbert Thormann relocated their legendary gay club Ostgut into the cavernous concrete structure, founding Berghain.

3. The Door Policy Philosophy & Etiquette
Berghain's door policy is world-renowned and frequently misunderstood. Head doorman Sven Marquardt and the collective team curate a crowd dedicated to genuine musical immersion, queer safety, and bodily autonomy.
- Discretion: Do not arrive in large intoxicated tourist groups. Approach in singles or pairs.
- Language & Demeanor: Speak German if you know it, otherwise remain polite and understated in English.
- No Cameras: Adhesive stickers are applied to all mobile cameras at the bag check. Attempting to take photos or record videos results in an immediate lifetime ban.
- Klubnacht Runtime: Begins Saturday 23:59 and runs continuously until Monday midday. Peak energy occurs between Sunday 06:00 and Sunday 22:00.
